HISTORY

The original 6,000 square foot House of Bargains store was opened in 1959 by founder Albert Edward "Frenchie" Bogg.

His vision became a well-established family-owned business in Jefferson City. He believed everyone should be able to receive discount pricing. His son, Carey Bogg, took over the family business in the 1970’s and continued with his wife, Jean, to own and operate a retail department store with departments such as hardware, automotive, housewares, sporting goods, boots and shoes, giftware, jewelry, toys, and even equipment and wedding rental. Carey passed away in 2017, leaving the business to his wife and two of his three children DeAnne and Chris. In 2021, Jean made the decision to close House of Bargains permanently. Not wishing for the Bogg family legacy of small business ownership to end, DeAnne made the decision to buy the House of Bargains building and open Jefferson City’s very first Overstock Bin Store! To honor her Grandfather and Father, DeAnne named the new Business simply, HOB.
